Unit 1 starts with algebra. Maths Methods students expand and factorise expressions, rearrange formulas, and solve linear and quadratic equations. They build on Year 10 fundamentals first, then move to harder work: the quadratic formula, completing the square, and the discriminant, which tells you how many solutions an equation has. They solve simultaneous equations, including a line and a curve together, and work with inequalities.

Tutor-written workbooks

Our tutors design workbooks, and each one follows the Victorian Curriculum for that year level. Each topic, such as linear equations or fractions, has its own section. It starts with short notes that explain the idea in plain language. Worked examples then show every step of the method, and guided questions let students try it themselves, starting easy and getting harder.

Students work through each section with their tutor in class, so they can ask a question the moment they get stuck.

Topic-based practice question sets

Once a topic is finished, students get an extra question set to revisit it. The questions get progressively harder to mimic exam conditions, so a student can build confidence first and then stretch further.

These sets give students regular practice on each topic after the lesson. The more questions a student works through, the more familiar the methods become, and the quicker they spot which type of problem they are looking at.

Timed practice exams under real conditions

Students sit practice exams with a similar format to school tests, under exam conditions. Working in a timed setting helps them get used to the pressure and learn how to manage their time across a paper.

Worked solutions provided allow students to go back over the paper to see which topics need more work. Those topics can then be practised further, so students feel more prepared for their school assessments.
