Program Structure

Our program aligns with the Victorian school curriculum and is integrated into levels.

Prep - Year 3

Early Literacy: Build strong foundations in phonics, spelling, vocabulary, reading fluency sentence writing, and grammar.

Reading Texts: Read and view imaginative and informative texts, developing comprehension, sequencing and make meaning.

Writing: Create simple narratives and factual texts using correct punctuation, grammar and clear structure.

Speaking & Listening: Communicate ideas confidently through discussion and presentation, while listening and responding to others.

Year 4 - Year 6

Reading Comprehension: Read fiction and non fiction texts, understand main ideas, themes and viewpoints, make inferences and explain meaning using evidence.

Text Structure & Language: Understand purpose and audience, use paragraphs, grammar, punctuation, vocabulary and figurative language to make meaning.

Literature & Response: Explore characters, settings and themes, identify author choices, compare texts and explain how these choices affect the reader.

Writing for Purpose: Plan, draft, edit and publish imaginative, informative and persuasive texts and control sentence structure, spelling, punctuation and word choice.

Speaking & Listening: Present, speak clearly, stay on topic and adjust language for different audiences.

Year 7 - Year 8

Reading Comprehension: Analyse fiction, non fiction and media texts, identify themes, ideas and viewpoints, interpret meaning and support responses with evidence.

Text Structure & Language: Analyse how purpose, audience and context shape texts, understand complex sentence structures, paragraphing, persuasive techniques, figurative language and specific vocabulary.

Literature & Response: Analyse character development, themes, setting and author choices, compare texts, understand how language and structure influence readers/audience.

Writing for Purpose: Plan, draft, edit and publish imaginative, informative and persuasive texts, develop clear arguments, explanations and structured paragraphs using accurate grammar, punctuation and spelling.

Speaking & Listening: Participate in discussions and presentations, explain ideas using evidence, respond to different viewpoints.

Year 9 - Year 10

Reading Comprehension: Analyse complex fiction, non fiction and media texts, interpret explicit and implied meaning, analyse themes, perspectives and bias using evidence.

Text Structure & Language: Analyse a text's purpose, audience and context, examine tone, rhetorical devices, figurative language, and cohesion.

Literature & Response: Analyse author intent, characterisation, themes and setting, explain how stylistic choices position the reader and compare texts.

Writing for Purpose: Plan, draft, edit and refine imaginative, informative and persuasive texts, construct sustained arguments, control paragraphing, syntax, vocabulary, grammar and punctuation.

Speaking & Listening: Present structured arguments, participate in discussions, justify opinions with evidence, use language for audience and context.
